After a huge turnout at the fireworks display last year, the RCA has partnered with the 6th Taxing District, the Norwalk Police Department, the Rowayton Fire Department, and local clubs and residents to make this year’s event the safest one yet for spectators and pedestrians.
There will be a lot more portable lavatories than last year. We will also have corridors on the beach set up to ensure that spectators can get to their blankets and, most importantly, emergency response teams can help anyone in need of assistance. Uniformed private security personnel will supplement a more significant Norwalk Police Department presence. Di’s Sea Shanty and two food trucks will be serving food and soft drinks at Bayley Beach. Please note that no food delivery services will be permitted access to the Bayley Beach area after 5:30 pm
In a return to past practice for the fireworks display, a number of roads will be closed to most inbound traffic from 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm to ensure pedestrian safety. The Norwalk Police Department will operate checkpoints at the entrances to the closed roads. Vehicles operated by residents of the affected areas and individuals with a valid State of CT accessibility permit will be allowed past the checkpoints. More information is available in the map below, but here are the road closure highlights:
Vehicles will be permitted to exit Bayley Beach and its vicinity via the closed roads at any time before the fireworks display begins at approximately 9:30 pm. However, the Norwalk Police Department reserves the right to limit vehicular traffic exiting the Bayley Beach area if it poses a safety risk to pedestrian traffic entering the vicinity. Importantly, no vehicles will be allowed to exit the Bayley Beach area until 20 minutes after the fireworks display ends or approximately 10:15 pm to ensure pedestrian safety.
The closed roads will be limited to pedestrian traffic unless you can prove that you are a resident of the affected area to the Norwalk Police Department. Please note that this policy applies to everyone - including members of the private clubs in the area.
The Bayley Beach parking lot will close to additional vehicles at 4:00 pm, so you will need to walk in after that (and provide proof of Rowayton residency or pay an access fee).
Rowayton is a village of many narrow streets. It is critical for emergency vehicles to have unimpeded access to all homes and businesses at all times. Therefore, the Norwalk Department of Transportation, Mobility and Parking has established the no parking zones illustrated in the map below from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Some roads will have no parking restrictions on both sides while others will just have one side restricted. Affected roads will be clearly marked with appropriate no parking signage and the Norwalk Police Department will vigorously enforce restrictions. Vehicles in violation of parking restrictions will be towed
While not highlighted on the map below, roads within the Roton Beach Association, Pine Point Association, and Bell Island Association communities are generally private. They will also be subject to parking restrictions.
